What movie did you watch last night? (20 Viewers)

Whatever Works. Larry David and Woody Allen. What could go wrong? Well, some stuff can go wrong, but not as much as other recent Allen films. I saw this when it was released but this may as well have been the first time I saw it because my memory is so bad. Larry does as good job.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Enjoyed this. The best part was definitely the bit when my 4 yeard old turned and whispered in my ear: "Daaad... what's porn?"

Thanks for that, Marvel.

The Lobster. Stuck on the fence with this one. A film of two halves. One I liked, one not so much. 3/5. Must check out Dogtooth by the same director, supposed to be good

Hi-Rise (2015)

A stupid, pointless, badly acted piece of tripe. It looked all right, like a really long Pulp video but whatever satirical bite that might have been in Ballard's book was severely lacking. Possibly the worst film I've ever seen, worse as it came recommended!
We tried to watch it, but it just didn't work. You could see the potential idea but the film didn't really develop it.
Last while:
Walking tall (73) good thriller boardering on grindhouse esque style films.
Raw. Totally fucked up French film.

I watched The Happening again, and once again hoping it would be better somehow. I like the premise but it gets a bit daft and sometimes it feels like Mark Wahlberg is about to burst out laughing. But I like the grim unexplained suicides.

The Innkeepers. Haunted house horror flick from Ti West (House of the Devil, In a Valley of Violence). Much better than I remembered. It's pretty slow to get going but West uses the time to develop his characters and build atmosphere which is rare in modern horror. And thank fuck this is good old fashioned horror with ghosts and scares not some post horror bullshit. A solidly crafted spookfest

Wasn't expecting to like it very much but I thought Dunkirk was excellent. Also Harry Styles was pretty good, it was only at the end that I remembered he was in the film and that it was him on screen.
Me too on Harry Styles, forgot it was him until right at the end.

Might be overkill but I'm going again on Thursday as my brother, his missus and mine have yet to see it. Will check it in 70mm and do a compare with the IMAX. I'm sure I'll notice zero difference but anyway...
