people like to have one of those around the place here because they're not generally dangerous to humans and eat other spiders that are

the brother had one living in his bathroom in melbourne until it jumped on him one day, and it lost a leg in the ensuing panic before being thrown outside, where it was probably eaten by a bird
Keeping an enormous, scary spider in your gaff to fight off other enormous, deadly, scary spiders. No thanks, Australia. I'll stick to wasps and midges.

Yeah, fairly common around this time of year too.

I had a tiny little jumping spider on my desk the other day. Tried to get a video but it got away. It was very cute.
