that's a really good piece, it rings true in regards Trump's support and the weird common touch he has.

This is how a lot of people in the white working class actually talk about politics, and even many elites recognize how refreshing and entertaining it can be! So it’s not really a blunder as much as it is a rich, privileged Wharton grad connecting to people back home through style and tone. Viewed like this, all the talk about “political correctness” isn’t about any specific substantive point, as much as it is a way of expanding the scope of acceptable behavior. People don’t want to believe they have to speak like Obama or Clinton to participate meaningfully in politics, because most of us don’t speak like Obama or Clinton.

Shooting from the hip and "being real" is all well and good but Just because you're proudly hillbilly (or whatever) doesn't give you a licence to be talk in "refreshing" ways and not be called on the, e.g., massive racism that might be involved there (in fairness he kind of touches on this later on). Isn't this the crap that Zizek keeps being called on?

They've a lot of good reading, it seems to take a sensible approach to conservatism. Probably best defined as paleo-conservative.
The author of that particular piece is a bit out there (in the best way possible), converted to Orthodox Christianity and now advocates for Christians to disengage from the world, the better to protect the faith from further dilution.

Northern Ireland politicians, particularly Unionists routinely talk of their "plain speaking" and "telling it like it is" when in reality they sound like drunker boors and are an embarrassment on the international stage.

Seems to work for them in their communities though.
