It's the Friday 80s Pop song thread (2 Viewers)

This one popped up after the earlier ones. My abiding memory is of an 80s sketch show with a Tomorrow's World style presenter showing how indestructible these new-fangled CDS are by smearing it in shit (or something) and when he put it in the machine this song played

Currently fighting between getting the first two Cyndi Lauper records or just going straight to a best off.

First album and a best of is the way to go. Her acoustic album is a good alternative best of, even with Shaggy turning up at one point. The world where she won and Madonna didn't would have been much better.

You're welcome!

Here she is doing Jackie Wilson

One for the "bands I don't get "thread for me

I was intrigued by them because the music press absolutely loved them, but I was disappointed when I got to hear them. What was the fuss about?

I mean, it's perfectly fine radio-friendly pop, but he/they were spoken of as some sort of genius pioneers

I'd be the same, coming to it later on. I assume the story of the band plays into it, a lot of people who wouldn't normally give this kind of music a chance were suddenly being brought right up to date? Just a guess, I've never been able to get on with his voice.

Sparks on the soundtrack, Lou Reed in an acting role of sorts, and half of the LA punk scene in bit parts

Also some actual actors including Malcolm McDowell

Watching The Big Sleep (for the first time!)

I hate that 40 years later, this song still comes to mind when I think of Bogie and Bacall

Reminds me of listening to all the latest records my oldest brother used to bring back from his ANCO apprenticeship in Sligo!
He had a big boombox with full size early 80's headphones that he brought up with him every week ..aww man I used to be dying for him to get home I'd be playing tapes and recording tunes off Dave Fanning to beat the band
