i am currently ripping oak floorboards to laminate together, maybe it'd make an interesting guitar body.

Yeah. I’ve a couple of evenings work of sanding fun and games ahead. I don’t want to radius the edges too much, just take the plank look off. Not too worried about the chop outs as they’ll be covered.

Yeah - based on my experience it’s certainly doable without a huge amount (any) specialised kit. The centre strip is key in my approach as it means you can have sharp edges to the neck pocket, and cover up the wiring routes

Edit: obviously this guitar is not in any way functional yet!

i think i had a little too much time on my hands with covid, i was intending to rip enough for the floorboards to make a workbench top and probably did 3x what i need. i don't think oak is a material anyone has ever used for a guitar body?

Looks deadly.
Main thing I’ve read about oak and guitar bodies is it’s weight puts people off. What’s the dimensions of those pieces?

They're 52mm across, probably will be 15 or 16mm thick when planed, of various lengths.

have never used it, but i believe you can blend it together easily enough.

Haven’t tried the blending yet as it I’ve only had one colour. Tried it originally as you can tint the shellac to make a colour coat. Might try toning the blue down with the black
