i am currently ripping oak floorboards to laminate together, maybe it'd make an interesting guitar body.
Yeah - based on my experience it’s certainly doable without a huge amount (any) specialised kit. The centre strip is key in my approach as it means you can have sharp edges to the neck pocket, and cover up the wiring routes

Edit: obviously this guitar is not in any way functional yet!
 
i think i had a little too much time on my hands with covid, i was intending to rip enough for the floorboards to make a workbench top and probably did 3x what i need. i don't think oak is a material anyone has ever used for a guitar body?

Looks deadly.
Main thing I’ve read about oak and guitar bodies is it’s weight puts people off. What’s the dimensions of those pieces?
 
Do the Germans have a word for that nagging fear, when you've your hands inside a machine which would turn your fingertips to mincemeat, that even though you've checked six times that it's plugged out, that it might still start?
