What movie did you watch last night? (26 Viewers)

The Batman. Well Colin Farrell was really good anyway and I'd definitely give his Penguin spinoff show a watch if it gets made before giving up on it after episode three. £27.50 to see it in IMAX. Not worth it - surprise surprise.

i watched barry lyndon after the recommendations. never got around to watching it before - the period format put me off. great stuff, although i can say it's not my favourite kubrick film. a tall order

The Double Life of Veronique

very beautiful movie about intuition and... mysterious connection, I suppose. very hard to describe. like if the cocteau twins were a movie. Kieślowski was such a miracle-worker. all looks very 90s now, in a way that’s difficult to articulate but still luscious to look at. definitely worth a watch.

Very entertaining daft horror

The Bad Guys. Decent Oceans 11/Zootopia mashup. Kept me and four kids entertained anyway while their mothers got ginned up this afternoon.

SHAW BROS!!!
a friend of mine recommended this a few years ago and I forgot to watch it.
Shaw Bothers studios were geniuses at this type of thing.

I never heard of these Shaw bros although I see now that they have made a bazillion films. The Boxer's Omen is really well done.
the Shaws started in the film business in the 20's in mainland China but after the Maoist takeover Run Run Shaw (1907-2014(!)) settled in Hong Hong in the 50's and they began to dominate the Hong Kong film industry and Chinese/Cantonese markets which flourised after the mainland film industry left a huge hole under Mao.
their many triumphs include popularising the martial arts film genre with their Kung Fu movies.

their logo is a rip off of Warner Bros but it's a symbol of greatness.

Escape from the Bronx. Somehow I managed to finish this, awful film. It's a film about extreme gentrification/ force removal & redevelopment of the Bronx by an evil company vs the nimby/ don't change anything terrorists.
