I remember Porn Trauma changed their name years ago. We had a long chat about it here. People were complaining that they couldn't actually listen to the band while at work. It was a good decision.

they end it saying they like the band so . Doubt it was a MAJOR complaint but i assume the band just didn't think the thing they don't care about was their hill to die on.

Yeah MOST bands are fully aware that band names are stupid anyways. Like 5 band names are good - I thought this one was good, and an ally statement. Go wrong me.

I can see why some of the female population would be annoyed at a bunch of lads taking the name Girl Band, even if it was from a place of solidarity in their minds originally. But I'm not riled up either way, not that my views are important. Not my bag whatever their name is.

can someone explain what was objectionable about the name girl band. not trying to be contrarian here, I genuinely want to know the substance of the complaint. is it because they’re all dudes?

I think the main issue that some people had was that it was perceived as mocking girls in bands. That the name was seen as being ironic so then was seen as a put down of actual bands with female members. Probably not what the band intended, but I think it was pretty decent of them to take it on board rather than doubling down. Also, I’d be a fan too

I remember there was a similar issue with the band Preoccupations changing their name from Viet Cong a few years back. There was lots of non-Vietnamese people complaining that they’d changed their name to appease the snow flakes.

On the RTE News channel at the moment GIRL BAND changing their name is one their 'TOP STORIES'.
Another one is 'APACHE PIZZA TO CREATE 500 JOBS'. Now that puts things in perspective.
