LWTUA is a song that has had horrible things done to it many, many times.
that a was good effort compared to most.

e.g. when people say Swans tame cover of the song is great, it always makes me laugh.

I like the Swans versions (there are two different ones) but they’re not a patch on the original. Hard to think of many Joy Division covers that are really worth the time recording them - maybe Low’s version of “Transmission”? Does “Ceremony” by New Order count?

listened to the LOW cover - musically it's good but I don't like the vocals at all.

I first heard SWANS in 1992 and I only own their records up to 1986.
when Gira got into folky stuff it wasn't a good move and the video
for their LWTUA cover looks really dated and stuck in the late 80's
maybe that's why they don't make many videos.
maybe I'm just down on them because they changed away so quickly
from something I really liked.

just listened to the version version with Jarboe singing for the first
time and it's sounds close to something you'd hear on a advert.

the early Swans material (about 1983) may well have been the most
extreme rock band then being without punk / hardcore or metal in
any way.

in 2003 Gira played an acoustic gig in Limerick (less than an hour
from where I live) and apparently 15 odd people turned up.

JD covers at best tend to be faithful to the original I can only think
of one great JD cover -
STEEL HARMONY's version of Transmission has been posted on thumped
many times and is one of the best things I've ever heard

My favourite Swans period is probably the first couple of reunion albums with the live album from just before they broke up being my absolute favourite (Swans Are Dead). I really like the old stuff but it loses its impact after a while.

According to my Swedish pal "it's about how people living at "piteälva" (the name of the river) can take care of most things them selves "det kan vi göra själva". And is more of a fun political song about how the countryside doesn't need the stuff the big city politicians come up with..!"

Funny. It was only a couple of days ago that I first (knowingly) heard the original. I'm sure there's a "I didn't know it was a cover" thread somewhere.

I devoured that Therapy? album as a moody young man. That song didn't seem the least bit out of place on the album, I was really surprised it was a cover. And iirc, that was the song they were going to play on the Late Late, and then they played Knives instead. Poor aul Gaybo wasn't happy.
