It was a personal article about his own feelings and experiences, I'm sorry but you're just wrong to be pedantic about details in this case.

one thing i've often thought is worth it's own thread is classic songs being
destroyed by cover versions on just vocals plus piano or acoustic guitar.
e.g. Gary Jules - Mad World or Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit.
adverts for insurance, mortgages, cars etc (usually aimed at young couples)
are full of these abominations.
Yeah, total krautrock floor-filler vibe off that second one. I think it’s great.the second version of LWTUA is cool - sounds like CHROME or maybe NEU.
also while i'm on a roll, it never ceases to amaze me that when arts, culture,
media etc 'creative types' are asked about the music they listen to,
how often they mention the most bland, safe stuff imaginable.
Past 20 years at least. They are the worst thing on the planet though, agreed. I still haven't listened to St Vincent album where she did that entire thing to her own album.I liked the Gary Jules version of mad world.
But in general i'm sick of the cutesy cover version trend of the last few years.
I blame nouvelle vague. I think they started the ball rolling on this trend. This is from 2004.
Given a similar treatment, too drunk to fuck, teenage kicks, guns of Brixton...

It’s 40 years since the release of their final album, Closer. From flexidiscs to French magazine giveaways, which tracks match up to the Manchester band’s beautiful, brutal best?www.theguardian.com
The Fairlight CMI was released in 1979. JUST SAYING.this might be in the things I should have know before now thread, but I just found out that the way they got that weird drum sound was Hannett recorded each drum, on its own track, separately, by itself. Like they only played one drum at a time, that's why it sounds like a sample and there's zero bleed through, because there's nothing else playing, it pretty much is a sample. Then Hannett assembled the whole thing together afterwards. In 1979. Decent.
I knew Hannett fucked around quite a lot, but I didn't realize it was to that extent.
