It took me ages to realise that the guy was called Ben Folds and that "Ben Folds Five" wasn't yet another pretentious band name
 
Was BFF a generally known abbreviation around the time they formed? Maybe they were just really good friends.
I do not believe so. ha! Never occurred to me. TBH the above video is mostly good for the great turn of the millenium formless, shapeless, "fashions". Lime green shirt, leather jacket and coloured glasses 👌
