Nick Cave at the 3Arena (1 Viewer)

same. if i not have seen him id be tempted. just as well though. still havent been to the new Point and ive no real interest in going. that and its expensive

I avoided going for years, but TBH it's a pretty good venue. Feels almost intimate for a 14,000 seater. Night and day between it and the old Point. I've tix got for the Friday - just gotta accept he's not gonna play The Olympia and try enjoy as best we can! Seen him play similar sized auditorium in Rome couple years back and it was fantastic.

don't like Warren Ellis' contributions - would beg Mick and Blixa to come back.
Does Nick play this size of venue often ?
surprises me some of the people who play the Point.
as i said i'm living in the past.
never saw Nick live.

Jeez Nooooooo! Warren leaves - I'm out!

nah mate, id rather not attend a concert that big, not interested in dealing with crowds that big when i dont have to

Nick wrote an open letter at one stage defending Morrissey.
i.e. his music and personal opinions should be treated separately.

PERE UBU played in Israel shortly before they played here in September
i'd say not that many people knew that.

prior to being in DIRTY THREE, Mick Turner was in great noisy bands like
SICK THINGS, VENOM P STINGER. then he and that band's drummer
form an acoustic band with Warren Ellis......
IMO he doesn't play to these folks strengths.

Yeah I think it's not bad actually because of the fact that the room basically goes widthways rather than longways, so even if you're at the back the stage doesn't look like it's a million miles away. It's good for a place of that size really.

have only heard Morrissey a few times since early 90's
yeah, remember song National Front Disco from then.
i've only ever owned one Smiths record and that's it.

BIRTHDAY PARTY are one of my favourite bands still.
until 1980 they were called THE BOYS NEXT DOOR.
BND's LP Door Door was released in 1979 but mostly recorded in mid 1978.
'Roman Roman' is about Roman Polanski's legal problems.

safe to say the band improved spectacularly during 1979.

actually here's the whole LP 'cause nobody was bothered
posting the song individually.
Roman Roman begins @11:12.

in Australia it was standard practice that anyone with a record deal
made promo videos so here they are looking cute in early 1978 doing
'These Boots Are Made For Walking'.
never liked 'Shivers' (written by Rowland) which seems to have Teenage
Kicks status in Australia.

so a lot of Aussie songs you'd never expect have videos.
e.g. first AC/DC single

I think that’s the absolute highlight of the BND record but the best stuff is on this compilation. Some excellent non-album tracks on it including that Boots cover (and a bunch of other bands from that scene):

I saw Cave play with the Grinderman line up (before Grinderman were a thing) and they were playing “Wild World”. Warren did RSH proud by playing the guitar part by playing his violin like a guitar.

the label Suicide records was set up by Mushroom to cash in on punk.
i've never listened to the rest of the LP, must do.
DOOR DOOR LP was a disaster the other three songs are better.
Somebody's Watching is the only song i like on the LP and i doubt
anyone else will like it.

I've heard Nick's solo piano version of Dead Joe but didn't know about
Wild World. the only the end of the below version captures it's tension IMO.
Ellis is the best thing about that version alright.
my main criticism of The Bad Seeds have a tendency to sound a bit Roger
Whitaker compared to the Birthday Party. BP instrumentally were far more intense.

being honest i haven't bought a new Bad Seeds record since he was still sort
of cult in the 90's but have listened to most of his material at some stage.

yeah to be honest, anything i've heard NC say in the last year has made me go ABSOLUTELY fuck that guy. will always love his music, but the aplogist bullshit aint it.

Can anyone send me some info on why it's not OK to play Israel but it is OK to play the USA? The FAQ on the BDS website doesn't really answer that question very well.

I dunno if there's an official answer to that but there is an active, ongoing bds campaign against Israel supported by many Palestinians which is starting to make an impact in terms of awareness of the situation there (ethnic cleansing, murder, theft etc). If NC had just said he didn't agree with the campaign i'd think fair enough but dragging out the antisemitism thing strikes me as either willfully Jeremy-Corbyn-is-antisemitic or just uniformed (at least of what people believe to be going on there, right or wrong). Boycott America by all means, it's a separate issue.

Well, it's not a separate issue because they are the ones propping up Israel, it's directly related.

but I take your point in regards the rest, Nick Cave's Red Hand File thing was pretty poor.
