The Uninhabitable Ireland (2 Viewers)

Sorry,
This

Yeah only saw that this morning wading through twitter. I'd a pretty similar reaction. I find myself getting kinda annoyed when i see the names from love island trending every evening. Like the planet is going to all fuck and people kind of know this but are still just basing their evening on wether some idiot gets the shift or not. No doubt car adverts galore between the breaks and all.

Why do you hate women?

(I just googled "watching love island is feminist" for lols)

Why do we even bother turning up at work anymore?

I'm 45 minutes off my summer holidays.

It's pragmatic enough. John Fitzgerald is an economist isn't he?

So we're (the EU) allowing 99,000 tonnes of South American beef to be imported AND we're (Ireland) bailing out the beef sector here?

Yes it’s to do with lowering thr EU’s carbon emissions by simply exporting them to South America.

It’s absolute billion is what it is.
It means we are still fucking the planet but instead now the EU will point the finger at everyone else even though we are now buying Beef raised on rainforest land has been cleared for

The EU are somehow managing to fuck over their own farmers, whilst bolstering and emboldening a crazy, right-wing leader in Latin America and sticking it to the planet in two ways rather than one

Well also that deal is in exchange for a sweet deal on exporting vehicles to the four countries in the MECOSUR bloc so its more like sticking it to the planet in three ways. Brazil are bumping euro6 emissions regulations a few years (or possibly forever) so V.AG. will probably be setting up their old 80's workshop in brazil and churning out mk3 golfs for another twenty years.

My thoughts are that there are at least two upcoming recessions, one is the financial one floating around brexit and all that, and the other is some form of a green recession where one way or another some resource or something becomes unfarmable or ungrowable and it has a domino effect on economies. Like a potato famine style thing. Ireland is also set up wonderfully for an oil recession, where if China, CCCP or the USA takes the huff with europe (which produces a tiny amount of the global oil but uses loads of it) and prices hit maybe 25% on what they are now the whole economy would be turned into a mess.

Moving to this thread to avoid the Brexit stuff, @ann post any thoughts on what Ireland can do as a country to be either financially independent or at least not be completely fucked over the moment a global recession hits? Obviously we could be in a better position if we had looked at what happened in 2008 and spent the past decade making plans but I'm looking for ideas here, not just blaming Fine Gael.

1) Something, something 100% Green or Green & Nuclear Power (prolly too expensive I suppose)
2) TOURISM, rebrand every fucking street to appeal to the Americans
3) ????
4) Socialist Utopia not pegged to Silicon Valley
