Where can I get vinyl cleaning cloths / solutions in Dublin?

My da is literally dusting off his vinyl collection since getting a new turntable for christmas. Going to the major chain stores has resulted in a 'Wha??' response, even when they sell vinyl. Is there a specialist shop that sells cleaning products?

Cheers.

I would advise against an alcohol spray. What really works is the basic dioxidised spray and soft cloth for a computer screen.
That'll sort it.

Terry cloths (the kind an expensive hotel bath robes are made of) takes dirt off of things and doesn't just rub it in...

why on earth would you advise against an alcohol solution to clean a record?

edit: hmm. must check and see what my cleaning fluid is made of...

In my view, a record cleaning solution should be safe for repeated use on any record. This argues against the use of isopropyl alcohol (as in rubbing alcohol), which dissolves the shellac formulation of most 78’s, and can potentially affect the plasticizers in LPs, causing increased wear. The cleaner should effectively remove typical dirt and debris (gritty, greasy, or gooey), mold or mildew, and the (pressing) mold-release compounds coating new records. It should be non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and harmless to the cleaning machine-which rules out many solvents. Finally, it should leave no residue, nor attract additional contamination which might foul the stylus. Oh yes-it should be economical...if not necessarily dirt cheap.

from... Cleaning Vinyl : vinyl

"My method is simple and cheap. I use a homemade solution 10 parts distilled water to 2 parts 99% Isopropyl alcohol with one drop plain dish soap and 2 drops Jet-Dry per 500 mL. I squirt this onto the record, spread with a Discwasher brush and then wipe with a clean microfiber cloth and air dry. Sometimes I rinse with plain distilled water and wipe again. If it's really filthy I just repeat until clean. I only do 5-6 at a time this way. I have 10 large cloths that I cycle through then wash"

this spin cleaner mk2 looks effective:

Amazon.com: spin clean record cleaner

no idea if there are shops in dublin that sell this contraption.

I saw a Spin Clean machine in Cloney Audio/Tower Records recently for about 75 bricks. Seemingly works wonders, although personally I'd always buy three or four records rather than something like that.

Unless you're trying to remove coffee stains or something, best way to clean a record is to play it!
i've bought records - generally old jungle 12"s that have been fingered a lot from being mixed - that have sounded like utter crap until i've washed them. merely playing them didn't clean them up... i haven't gone to the lengths that i've quoted above - just a sponge and some washing liquid in the sink and then a good wipe with a tshirt. made a massive difference in some cases though.

I just order a Milty Zerostat 3 there now - have any of you lads got one? Thoughts on the Spin Clean Record Washers?

Bought a spin clean in the last month with a few amazon vouchers that were doing nothing. Happy with it. Really surface dirty/dusty 2nd hand records come out great. Crazy price for a piece of plastic and a bit of washing solution. I'm sure anyone with a bit of know how and drive (not me) could make their own.
