Since Lili did an albums one.

I'll start and add to this as I think of them.

The stand out film for me this year was Hereditary. Best horror film in years and years. Others I liked.

Suspiria
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Phantom Thread
The Shape of Water
The Endless
Mission Impossible
American Animals
Ghost Stories
First Reformed
Calibre
Hold the Dark
Leave No Trace

I've seen so few compared to normal years. I'm sure I would have loved Apostasy and Cold War had I gotten around to them but they're still on the shelf unfortunately. Buster Scruggs was a great late entry in the race. Can't believe Phantom Thread was only this year it seems so long ago but that was excellent as well. Totally with you on Hereditary though. Easily the standout for me.

Think Phantom Thread was late 2017 but I only got round to it in feb this year.

Yeah, Hereditary is quality

did you become a parent this year? welcome to the new normal. i've been to one non-kids film in the cinema since 2006.
Exactly. Went to the cinema several times a week in the lead up to it but mainly saw some old classics. I keep thinking I just need to be more organised but maybe that's fooling myself. Certainly the episodic nature of Buster Scruggs helped.

Annihilation was very good even though it annoyed the shite out of me and copied certain core ideas from Solaris.

Hereditary was my film of the year too. I also liked Leave No Trace. Didn't like The Shape of Water, though it looked fantastic.

shoplifters
cold war
the first purge (no really)

that's more like a list of the last few good films i can remember seeing
