People seem to do that here.

Buy some apt, have kids and move to a larger house. Then downsize in retirement.

In Ireland we tend to keep more of a death grip on the property.

It doesn't necessarily mean you'll buy a home three times, just that you'll move. My wife is upping the average for everyone, she's on address number 9 or 10 now. I lived at home for 23 years, 1 year in student accommodation, 1 year in a house I was sharing, back home for a few years and now into the house I own (which I can't see myself leaving).
