2.8 million airplays were reported to PPI in 2014.

There was no surprise as to the most played track on Irish radio in 2014 - PHARELL WILLIAMS' smash hit HAPPY from the "Despicable Me 2" Soundtrack.

Second place went to the catchy RATHER BE by British electronic group CLEAN BANDIT, feat. JESS GLYNN. JOHN LEGEND'S romantic piano ballad ALL OF ME took third place. Multi-Grammy Award winner SAM SMITH features 3 times: #4 STAY WITH ME, #23 I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE and #42 MONEY ON MY MIND. ED SHEERAN also features 3 times on the most played: #5 SING, #32 THINKING OUT LOUD and #47 DON'T. COLDLAY with A SKY FULL OF STARS came sixth while their track MAGIC was #16. ELLA HENDERSON, GHOST took seventh place and the NICO & VINZ track AM I WRONG came eighth.

THE SCRIPT make the most played list this year again, with SUPERHEROES in #9. KODALINE proved popular again in 2014 on Irish radio with 3 tracks making the list: #10 ONE DAY, #22 WAY BACK WHEN and #50 BRAND NEW DAY. HOZIER, in what was an incredible year for the Bray man, had 3 tracks in the top 50: #11 TAKE ME TO CHURCH, #26 FROM EDEN and #38 SEDATED. Other Irish artists to make the list include THE CORONAS, ALL THE OTHERS at #14 and THE RIPTIDE MOVEMENT, ALL WORKS OUT at #20.

The PPI top 50 most played is compiled by PPI, from the airplays supplied by the Irish radio stations listed below.

2FM, 4FM, 98FM, Beat 102-103, Clare FM, Cork's 96FM, East Coast FM, FM104, Galway Bay, Highland Radio, iRadio, KCLR 96FM, KFM, Limerick's Live 95FM, LMFM, Lyric FM , Midlands 103, Midwest Radio, Newstalk, Northern Sound, Ocean FM, Phantom FM, Q102, Radio Kerry, Radio Nova 100, Red FM, RTE Radio 1, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Shannonside, South East Radio, Spin 1038, Spin South West, Sunshine 106.8 FM, Tipp FM, Today FM, WLR FM, C103,TXFM.

It would be very interesting to see a correlation between this list and the top selling tracks of 2014

Reading that list, only three songs stick out as being familiar (I'm sure more would be familiar but I don't know who sings them or what they're called), evidently not many of them are on the Lyric FM playlist. I could have sworn that "Get Lucky" monstrosity was played more, it haunted my nightmares for a long time there.

I might make a playlist of it all and listen to it tomorrow.

Well, except Shake it Off of course.
