The few people I know that read Black Swan Green didn't like it at all, but I really liked it too.

Yeah, I think fans of his more complicated narratives were let down by how straight it was written. I thought it was great, really nailed that school age experience. While it was more straight-forward, it was still very well written.

“These jokes the world plays, they're not funny at all.”

Yes, I thought Black Swan Green was good too. The point where he stopped messing about with the smart-arsery and just tried to write a good novel. It's his Jackie Brown.

There are very few authors where I have read many of their books. I have a huge backlog to get through this summer because I keep writing down books that Shaney, Jim, Scutter and Lomax mention.

Glen Duncan

Loved Weathercock and The Last Werewolf. Must check out some of his other stuff

Cormac McCarthy

Haven't read the first three but

Suttree - 8
Blood Meridian - 10+ (i'ts my favourite book)
All The Pretty Horses - 9
The Crossing - 10
Cities of the Plain - 9
No Country For Old Men - 10
The Road - 10

Damn! Someone got to Cormac McCarthy before me. Would agree on Blood Meridian being the best.

Same here! But rate the ones you have read. Its more reliable than the reviews on Amazon or Goodreads.

I don't do many of the same author so all I have to offer is

Don Delillo

Underworld -10
White Noise - 10
Libra - 10

Yeah, I'm basically just a fan boy. On the other hand I have it on good authority that Mao II is great and the rest are hit and miss.
