Somadrone - Depth of Field Release Party with Visionair & Patrick Kelleher

Release party for Somadrone's Depth Of Field LP in Block T, Smithfield tomorrow night, with Visionair & Patrick Kelleher.
San Francisco based Somadrone's third long player, Depth of Field, is a follow up to 2007's Of Pattern and Purpose and 2005's Fuzzing Away to a Whisper, released on Trust Me I'm a Thief Records.

Member of Dublin's cult band, Redneck Manifesto, Somadrone recorded Depth of Field in Dublin, Ireland / Siggen, Germany / Stockholm, Sweden / Noyant la Gravoyere, France / Berkeley and San Francisco, California, A number of these recordings were written and recorded at various artist residencies including EMS (Institute of Electro Acoustic Music, Stockholm), during free intervals while study for a PhD in Music or while living in temporary exile.

The result is far from pre-existing material: 7 out of the eight 8 tracks have vocals, more acoustic instruments and standard song forms. Along with aid of a brass and string combo, Depth of Field is a totally new sound for Somadrone; a minimalist inspired electronic pop songbook, somewhere between Ennio Morricone, Jim O Rourke and Air.

You can BUY the album online direct from the Skinny Wolves Store, plus all good record shops.

    VISIONAIR
"Vision Air make the kind of high-grade electronic music that nineties Warp would sign, before they went missing in Maximo Park.... in our humble opinion it's right up there with the Autechres and Clarks of this world." - 20JazzFunkGreats
""Yeagh" by Dublin duo Richie Egan and Niall Byrne (a.k.a. VisionAir http://soundcloud.com/vvisionairr) recalls the warm vintage synths found in the ambling Krautrock grooves of yore, though obviously invigorated with the sheen of modern production technology. The vibe of the song, which closes out the pair's brand-new A Vision EP (available for free download here http://soundcloud.com/vvisionairr/sets/a-vision-ep/ ), feels like an esoteric Tangerine Dream, Can, or even Silver Apples tune as performed by a guitarless Ratatat on quaaludes. Maybe that sounds weird, but so does this song—in a good way." - XLR8R

    PATRICK KELLEHER
"Irish songwriter and electronic pop merchant Patrick Kelleher returns with a new 7" fronted by the ace '80s DIY synth-pop stylings of 'Contact Sports' http://soundcloud.com/skinnywolves/sets/wolf005-patrick-kelleher-his-cold-dead-hands-contact-sports-7, which comes draped in gated reverb and period electric piano sounds. It's mercilessly retro and painfully zeitgeisty, but when its pulled off this well, such considerations are but trifles." - Boomkat
