TILLY AND THE WALL
NEW ALBUM ‘O' RELEASED 6TH OCTOBER ON MOSHI MOSHI
More vivid and emboldened then ever before, Tilly And The Wall unleash their new album ‘O' on 6th October on Moshi Moshi.
Long
loved by the hip and the cognoscenti, the Omaha five piece have
delivered on their alt-pop promise with an album as compelling,
explosive and potentially chart-bothering as a three-way between
Lovefoxxx, Gwen Stefani and Black Lips.
The dizzyingly unique
‘Tilly' arrangements of hip-shaking tap, overdriven guitar and
close-knit girl-boy vocals underpin twelve tracks of increasingly bold
pop eclecticism. Kianna, Derek, Jamie, Nick, and Neely strop-stomp
their way through the dirty riot-blues of Pot Kettle Black, cast
spiralling brass across Cacophony and I Found You, gate-crash a new
wave disco with Falling Without Knowing, and bask in the vibrant
electro-pop technicolour of lead single Beat Control.
Produced
by Mike Mogis (Lightspeed Champion), ‘O' is their most collaborative
effort yet. Drawing on four years of touring with the likes of
Lightspeed Champion, Bright Eyes and most recently CSS; the songwriting
hat of every member is thrust into the ring. The result is a cohesive
yet wildly experimental record; Flowers-in-hair and psych-harmony
breeze by on Blood Flowers and Chandelier Lake, the percussive delights
of pots, pans and a tap-trio combine on Alligator Skin, and the album
is littered with a veritable merry-go-round of cussing and swearing,
reaching its zenith with Too Excited.
Just four years ago
Tilly And The Wall emerged from Omaha with debut album Wild Like
Children, revealing their unbridled and potent combination of singsong
harmonies, charging acoustic guitars and of course the synonymous tap
dancing ‘drummer'. These ‘growing up songs' about not wanting to grow
up, losing your love to the road, and the urge to force the night as
far as you could take it, evolved into the universal themes of the
sophomore album Bottoms of Barrels. Just as the band matured into the
bigger themes of freedom, courage and rebellion on that second album,
now they have realised tougher, sharper, stronger charges of beat and
song on their third.
Strictly speaking an untitled album, O's
artwork comes as a foldout booklet featuring seven different designs by
various artist friends of the band. Fans can re-fold the booklet so
they have their favourite image at the front.
