Foggy Notions presents
A SUNNY DAY IN GLASGOW
Whelan’s, Upstairs, July 30
Tickets from WAV, tickets.ie, Road, City Discs, Ticketmaster
“These Philadelphia tweegazers lose themselves in the trebly haze of
early Creation Records - pop melodies barely shining through all the
layers of noise. Then they kill you with ramshackle C86 adorableness.”
- Pitchfork , 8.0
“Philly's A Sunny Day in Glasgow is dreamy. Their Sunniest Day Ever EP
is both creepy and awe-inspiring, with tracks like "C'mon," where
atonal My Bloody Valentine noise rubs up against melodic pop. The
quartet masters the clouds like no other." - XLR8R Magazine
“A Sunny Day in Glasgow are a band that gives dream-pop a fresh
reference point. The Cocteau Twins can step down from their throne.
This is an album of great ingenuity, one that deconstructs the best
parts of tried-and-tested genres and pastes them into one
sonically-astounding collage.” - Drowned in Sound
Hailing from Philadelphia-via-Montreal, A Sunny Day in Glasgow make
dreamy pop music reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins, Jesus & Mary
Chain, and early Aphex Twin, all the while maintaining a sound all
their own - noisy but not "noise" - with lots of samplers, lush
melodies, and loud guitars.
A Sunny Day in Glasgow began as a bedroom project of Ben Daniels and
his twin sisters Robin and Lauren. They released their first EP The
Sunniest Day Ever in 2006 (charting at number one on New York's WNYU)
which provided them early acclaim and paved the way for their debut
full length Scribble Mural Comic Journal on Brooklyn label Mis Ojos
Discos.
In 2007, the Daniels siblings assembled a backing band of disparate
musicians from various countries/states to tour in support of the
critically acclaimed SMCJ. Shortly after, the group released the
limited Tout New Age EP. Following their tours, Ben returned to school
to finish his master's thesis - by the time he moved back to Philly
sister Lauren had moved to Colorado to start grad school. Robin and Ben
re-grouped in Philadelphia and assembled a more permanent line-up
featuring Brice Hickey on bass and Josh Meakim on drums.
