The story.....
Two brother s from vastly different musical backrounds created the futuristic yet earthy Chrome Hoof. Experimenting together as early as 94- Chrome Hoof really lifted off around 00. Originaly just the two members battling it out with bass and drums, but have now recruited another 10 or so freaks, creating the vast stage horizon that has now become one of their trademarks. A little backround into their Prog / Doom / Disco sound: In the early years, Leo was rocking to Motorhead, Sabbath, Maiden, AC DC and dare we reveal Whitesnake. Heavy riffs sodden in bile and downward spirals. Later joining Trespass, then cult Doomers Cathedral- who he still plays for.
Milo was developing a taste for groove based music. Acid House, Hip Hop and Disco. Producing freak beat electronics and remix s under the name Kruton, and started 5 Mic Cluster on Output Records, with fellow techno producer Mark Broom. Both were also into forward thinking bands such as Faust, King Crimson, This Heat, Brain Ticket etc. They have been consolidating seemingly opposing influences ever since- and perhaps best crystalising their work with their Pre-Emptive False Rapture Album- out now on Southern Records- which is receiving incredible reviews across the board- from Kerrang, Time Out, NME, Plan B, Dazed and Confused, Play Louder, Bizarre, Vice, etc. etc.
Their rep for the live shows doesn t just come from the costumes, stunt men, props and mayhem. It s all backed up by the music: When you take on drums- a burnt out raver who s convinced the best years are yet to come- with an insane drive to nail the ultimate disco beat- however when it eludes him once more, immediately switches to a stuttering progressive break-down in some un-holy time signature Then a bassist, whose fingers blur like knitting needles on cheap speed- pulling up low-end from the very foundation stone of the cosmos, together creating a furnace of restless Disco-Grind.
Now bring in the rest of the band, who s combined age is just shy of seven thousand, and are composed of people who are all involved in other projects - a vast range of specialities can be drawn upon. Instrument-wise they re armed with bassoon, sax, trumpet, keyboards, violin, cello, perc, samplers, guitar s, bass, drums- and several vocalists. Sprawling, obelisk like arrangement s follow thirty second rabid interjection s. Every musical whim can find it s way into the band s manure-burning HYPER-STOVE. There have been some key moments: Touring USA with SunnO))), supporting Add N to X s last ever show, legendary performance s which left a smouldering hole in the Earth s crust after headlining the tapestry festival for three year s running. Fresh from freaking out teenager s at the Camden Crawl festival, and also the crowd at the Supersonic festival in Birmingham- bewilderment is a reaction they are used to, although the tide seems to finally be turning.
They supported the Klaxons on the UK leg of their tour, and have been asked to play again with them this December. Playing Jarvis Cocker s Meltdown festival at the Royal Festival Hall alongside legends such as DEVO and Jarvis himself, was another high point. Release wise, they put out their own Broken Claw ep in 00, had a self titled album on Tritone in 03, remixed the Test Icicles for Domino in 05, an extended EP Beyond Zade on Rise Above Records last year, and the afformentioned album out on Southern Records. There are many things that set this band apart- experience, attitude, risk taking, but most importantly embracing their various nemesi with unconditional jealousy. Infinity is a harsh mistress my friend.
