Ladyflash re-launched its highly acclaimed club on Thursday February 28th
to great acclaim. Stagger Lee and Queen Kong kicked off the club residency
with a bang. The next one is gonna be a riot!
Ladyflash is very proud to announce a live performance from Ireland's much-loved indie quintet Ham Sandwich. They recently clamped their hands on a Meteor Award for 'Hope For 2008'. They have also just released their début album 'Carry The Meek' which was received with huge acclaim. The long-player features their hits "Click click…BOOM", "Sad Songs", "St. Christopher" and their most recent one, "Keepsake". They have earned some fans in pretty high places – such as Bono, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins and legendary Beach Boys producer Van Dyke Parks. They cite the likes of The Flaming Lips, Blondie and Whipping Boy amongst their influences. Their unique sound is built around the dovetail vocals of Niamh and Podge flying against a cloudy sky with catchy yet intricate guitars. Seeing as the Kells five-piece sold out their gig in Whelan's last month – you can expect something special in this intimate underground venue. You can also expect stage antics from notorious front-man Podge, some impressive costumes and lots of fun!
Something from them on their name:
"It's a bit of a blessing I guess, no-one ever forgets the name and it makes us work harder… the name's not cool, sexy or arty which means we've got to produce really good pop songs, play really good live and kick our own arses to get any success."
The Irish Independent on their recent sell-out Whelan's gig:
"If it were possible to buy shares in bands, Ham Sandwich would be the ones to invest in right now. With a stock that's been rising for the last year, and set to continue in the same direction for the foreseeable future, they'd guarantee some excellent returns in a very competitive market."
HotPress on their début album:
"Carry The Meek is an album of beautifully sung, crisp, tight, lush, emotional and fun guitar songs that is much more than the sum of it's parts."
Betamax Format are the video dead. Like Rocky Balboa trained by Apollo Creed, Betamax return to bring you the sound of a title fight knockout. Synth driven songs to make you work it. You know this world won't save you? Betamax Format just might try. Betamax Format are a tight electro-indie act from Dublin who pen incredibly catchy toons. One such toons being "You Are Welcome In My House" which proved a favourite amongst Phantom 105.2 presenters and listeners when it topped the airplay charts.
Sinéad Ní Mhórdha presents 'Phantom Anthems' on Dublin's alternative Phantom 105.2. She also presents 'Carousel' on Phantom - a daily feature covering events within the world of art and culture. In addition to this, Sinéad reviews new alternative bands and albums on RTE2's 'TTV' every Friday at 6pm.
Sinéad cut her teeth djing in the Temple Bar Music Centre in 2001 with all-girl dj trio 'Chicks on Decks'. Following performances at the Bass Festival, Heineken Green Energy Festival and Galway's 110th Street - the ladies parted company to concentrate on their own separate projects. Sinéad moved on to dj in venues in Dublin such as The Village, the Sugar Club as well as residencies in Whelan's, Carnival and 4 Dame Lane. She also played in clubs in London such as 'Karate Boots' in The Phoenix off Oxford Circus, which included guest djs such as Graham Coxon. Sinéad's radio career commenced in 2002 as a regular guest panellist on the Dave Fanning show. She also presented on FM104 and appeared on BBC London as a News Review panellist. But her true calling for radio was undeniably with Dublin's Alternative Rock station - Phantom. After initially joining in 2004 for the temporary licences, Sinéad returned to the airwaves on Halloween 2006 to re-join the ranks as Presenter on Phantom 105.2.
Sinéad has been described as: "a music junkie" and that she is one of Phantom's "leading lights" by the Sunday Independent.
The Star have recently declared Sinéad as " Ireland's First Female DJ Superstar".
