The rest of the time allowing myself to think about my job, about how much of my time it takes up, about how I imagined my life would be when I grew up, etc, brings me to the brink of emotional collapse, so I have to be careful to avoid doing so

Ah yes. I work for family. Four years of being spoken to as if i have some sort of intellectual disability, shitty hours, shitty pay and industrial strength guilt-tripping has led me to that point.

Who told any of you lot that life owed, or would ever provide, any type of happiness or job satisfaction?
That's a fairy tale.

If you're clothed, housed & fed and get the weekend off to pursue your pleasures then what, exactly, the fuck are any of you complaining about?

"I don't like my job" waah-waah

I'm so sorry your life isn't a series of personal victories and artistic accomplishment that has you walking around all day whistling to yourself in blissful self-regard.

Arbeit Macht Frei.

a wonderful, witty, insightful addition to the conversation. thanks.

i work from home, for a company that I own a bit of.
Its deadly, but my work day shifts, basically I flute about till midday, and then work until six, eat dinner, have a nap, and work until about 1am.

I go into the office once or twice a week. Its nice to get out on the bike. Sometimes I have to go in and meet investors, so I wear a suit and stuff, eat a massive lunch, and then feel bloated for about a day. Sometimes we travel around to meet the company board.

That's pretty much my life. Its fairly great.

i have a temporary 3-4 month job, the supervisor works part time so isn't around to see if i'm in or not. today i slept in til 1 and i've spent the afternoon drinking coffee, wanking to terrible anime porn and hoarding downloads to watch later. i worked til 9 last night though...

I work for myself. I get a colossal amount of free shit and occasional trips to nice places, but the money is beyond dreadful. Plus I seem to work all the hours God gave - but then again, I am just back from a free four hour lunch in L'Ecrivain so really, I must not gripe.

I work as a knight. It's good. Generally work in the summer when most battles happen. Have to pay a shit load in insurance.

Pros
Free chain mail
Shield is amazing
Maidens every week
Mead
Riding (horses)

Cons
Scurvy
Flesh wounds
No internet
Helmet hair

I was working for myself right up until a month ago. It paid rarely, but when it did, it did well. Loved every minute of it.

I've done absolutley nothing for the past month. It does'nt pay at all. Loving every minute of it.

My dream is to work for myself, I hate making lots of money for other people and not getting any of the spoils for myself other than my wage. But I'm working up to my own business....slowly slowly slowly.

i work about 15-20 hours unpaid overtime every week, get incredibly stressed, cant sleep at night, and still look forward to working in the morning. i'm not sure if i'm fucked up or just like my job...

what do you do?

i work for myself, its great when im busy but in between jobs i always end up thinking ill have to go back to college or get a job working in pennys. i pine for regular hours but if i was working 9-5 id probably cry.

My job (I'm a programmer) is difficult and demanding, and sometimes I get a sense of satisfaction from doing it well, the kind of satisfaction you get from solving a puzzle. The rest of the time allowing myself to think about my job, about how much of my time it takes up, about how I imagined my life would be when I grew up, etc, brings me to the brink of emotional collapse, so I have to be careful to avoid doing so

I'm so glad other people feel like this. I haven't been doing any work for months, although in fairness I wasn't going mad looking for any because I'm worn out with the baby. I felt like I'd reached the end of the line for a while and was kicking myself for doing multimedia in college instead of something more lucrative. I kept thinking I was going to have to do another degree or start cleaning toilets at night.

Then I got a bit of work the other week. Shit pay, but I did some really spanky programming, really enjoyed it and wasn't rushed by the client.

But then I got another load of work that I have to start yesterday. Tight deadline and scary programming that's making me sick thinking about it. I'm terrified I'll make a balls of the programming and/or won't meet the deadline.

And I have a terrible hangover.

I'd still rather work for myself though, although it can be quite lonely and it's difficult to work around minding the baby, although I'm roping people in to help next week and HMD will be off for a couple of days. I'd rather work my tits off for a few weeks on and off than have to go out to work every day and leave HMB in a creche.
