I have to drive someone to an appointment, coming from the M4 direction. I presume I should drive straight in towards town and turn right for the Hilton at Kilmainham then left along the south circular? I don't have a car and rarely drive - maybe there are building-related traffic nightmares that way?

You can put the route on google maps and set a time of arrival on desktop - it will give you the best route based on the average traffic. It also has a traffic layering on it where you can look at the past/present traffic. Here's it half filled out, i don't know your origin or desired time to arrive
