Some info about Oki……
Born in Kobe, Japan in 1941, Oki Itaru was raised in a rich musical environment; his father was a player of the Shakuhachi (Japanese vertical flute), while his mother was a master of the Koto (Japanese horizontal harp). Oki started to play the trumpet in his high school brass band. Moving through the Dixieland and bop styles, he took on
free jazz in the late 1960s and joined with Togashi Masahiko and Sato Masahiko to form ESSG (their first tour of Europe took place in 1969). Following his subsequent formation of the Oki Itaru Trio (which later grew into a quartet) Oki moved to Paris in 1974 and since then he has
continually performed at concerts and festivals in France and throughout Europe and has played and recorded with such free jazz heavyweights as Arthur Doyle, Sunny Murray, Alan Silva, Noah Howard and Michel Pilz to name but a few. At the height of the Japanese out-jazz scene he was responsible for introducing the legendary sax
abuser Kaoru Abe to the Tokyo free-playing fraternity. He is also an avid collector of trumpets and other valve based instruments and has toured his Oki Trumpet Exhibition throughout Europe. In 2007 he released the landmark ‘Encounter’ cd with guitarist/turntable artist
Otomo Yoshihide who has played and recorded with Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms), Matts Gustaffsons’ The Thing, Philip Jeck and Bill Laswell among others.

Electronic Sensoria Band, (now European Sensoria Band) was formed when long-time Wormhole fan Fergus Cullen asked twin brothers Anthony and David Carroll to play with him at legendary Dublin improv club Lazybird. Ditching the guitars in favour of casio keyboards and adding electro-drumpad player Adrienne Flynn of Memory Cells, E+S=B was born. With releases on their own Last Of Our Kind label as well as Deserted Village and Ninepoint records they have played and recorded with the
likes of Damo Suzuki (CAN) and Itaru Oki among others. Since then, taking more and more inspiration from the American Free jazz scene of the 60s, E+S=B have scaled down to a three piece line-up consisting of Fergus on clarinet, bass clarinet electronics, Dave and Anthony on drums and bass.
