2014 releases worth a listen.. (1 Viewer)

Nah they're from the States so they come with immediate top-down pitchfork approval rather than having to sell themselves to the tastemakers.
Well kind of

Pitchfork clearly like Joanna Gruesome too.

Suzanne Vega's new one is pretty decent. I was a huge fan when I was 12, 13 but then I lost all interest. This one has the familiar monotone singing, the middle of the road tunes and unremarkable lyrics but it has lots of little catchy, jaunty bits and nice backing vocals to keep it interesting. Nice and short too, no song longer than 4 and a half minutes.

July - Marissa Nadler

Sparse, goth-tinged folk. Not a million miles from Chelsea Wolfe but I think I like this a lot more. Has some sort of associations with the Sunn/experimental metal crowd. Reverb-drenched production by Randall Dunne.

Listened to this Marissa Nadler one a couple of times today, it's really nice alright.

Jason Lescalleet - Much To My Demise
This one is really good too, for droney tape stuff.

AMM - Place sub. v.
Same old same old, but better than the last one

Carla Bozulich - Boy
Had a listen to this today, promising enough on first listen. Strange rock songs.

Joseph Hammer has a new one out called Roadless Travel which I'm waiting excitedly to arrive

A Field In England Reimagined by Teeth Of The Sea

This is excellent. 3 pieces coming in at 30 minutes or so. Was actually expecting it to be more electric guitar heavy but was pleasantly surprised. more electronic/soundscape based.

RSD release. think theres only 300 of them. plenty for sale at face value on discogs.
