    sellling your songs, sort of

I want big bands, I don't care who, x factor types, the lot.. to record and perform my songs. How do I make this happen. I want "If Only i Hadn't been born" to be the lazy movie director's "sad" version of Walking On Sunshine or Brown Eyed Girl. How do I make this happen?
    Thanks... broke.

    Ooh, a mildly related question...

To join IMRO, I need to get a letter from a venue I've played, or something like that. Who do I ask? The gig promoter or venue manager or who da fuh? I'm assuming somebody, somewhere, has a template for this sort of thing.

you can send your cd's to directors and producers and that'll be one step. you can also register your music with certain companies that provide content to films and ads. There are different rates depending on how well known you are. I think Getty actually have started doing it now and there's another company too. it might be playfocus or something? I dunno. pm me.

    You need a publisher.
A publisher will pimp your songs to the A&R people of appropriate artists.

I'd imagine the market for indie songs is akin to....I dunno, the market for home made specialist apple tarts or something like that. Lots of people making them, but for love, not money. If you were to write non-specific middle-of-the-road American style country songs you'd increase your chances of getting your songs published and sold.

I hounded everyone I could think of from the cast and crew of Pirates of the Caribbean for a few months trying to get one of Stoat's pirate-y songs into it. All I ever got in return was an unopened envelope with a "we do not listen to unsolicited material" note on it

Probably the best you can do is to get the most famous person you know to cover/remix one of your tunes, and hope the most famous person they know hears it.
