I think I might have it sorted. The impeller was far easier to get to than I would have expected, having found the manual. I *think* it was caused by the tiny piece of loose plastic - clear food wrapping sort of plastic - I found which had somehow gotten past the filter.

Ours would still be under warranty I reckon. Bosch, which you would hope offers good after sales support.

Last night the dishwasher started to make a high pitched mechanical whine when pumping water out. Google suggests it's the impeller which is shot. The machine is only two or three years old.
