Love him in that.

I remember he sat down with Eckhart, gave his shirt a withering look and says "What is that, pink?"
Like the man was a gender traitor.

Hell of a film.

I wanted to post the sauna scene but it's not up. This is a close second:

For all the great dialogue, this scene always kills me.

Withnail knows it's over for him, that he'll never 'play the Dane' as Monty put it.

I always wondered whether the extra "nor women neither" at the end meant he was gay for Marwood. But I am probably reading too much into it.

One that springs to mind is from one of my favourite films, Chopper. Eric Bana's performance was incredible.

I can't find a YouTube clip of the whole thing, but it's the scene where Chopper stabs Keithy George in the shared cell, towards the start of the film.

He enters the cell with malintent written all over his face, and explodes in a flurry of violence stabbing Keithy multiple times in the face and neck.

He's immediately almost in tears for what he's done, his demeanour entirely changed wracked with the heavy breathing of regret and worry. Keithy and Chopper exchange a few lines and Chopper throws him a conciliatory cigarette that lands in a pool of blood beside Keithy, really underscoring the futility of Chopper's gesture at this stage.

Some of the other inmates call the guards and in the few moments before they arrive Chopper is composed, leaning casually against the cell bars, and full of his usual swagger and wit; "Oul Keithy's done himself a mischief!" he chirps with barely concealed sarcasm.

What I found amazing about this scene was how it established Chopper as a complex contradiction of a character. He stabbed Keithy because he saw that as doing something "good", but it was an horrifically violent stabbing and the act of a psychopath - but then he is vulnerable to the point of tears, and wracked with regret.

He's empathic enough to throw Keithy a cigarette as he lies on the ground, but blind to the fact that Keithy is absolutely fucked. And to cap it all he pushes all this back under the surface by the time the guards arrive. As a viewer, you're left reeling and confused - just like everyone else that deals with Chopper in the film.

Such a great performance from Bana, and such a shame he's made such bullshit movies since.

I remember seeing this for the first time and being absolutely amazed as the light of the train comes around the corner
