Hurling Championship (6 Viewers)

I'm pretty sure he was on the panel this year - as a sub.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Feeney_(hurler) - seems to back it up although it cannot be relied on all the time.

He's only the same age as you. :)

This year's final is 2 September (Electric Picnic Sunday) but more importantly is the same date as the 1973 final.

confirmed it last night, he is still on the panel (or at least was last sunday).

I'm off to hang my head in shame

Over on An Fear Rua, someone says they met Dan S. and he says there'll be only one retirement. Rumour has it thats it's Feeney.

i hope tony browne plays on. he's a few years older than ken mcgrath, paul flynn etc, far as i know. he's only the one i thought would go. but then i too thought feeney was already gone.

tony browne is probably my favourit e hurler in the county NO the world. second is tommy walsh. third ken mcgrath.

Poor final, but well done to Kilkenny. They silenced a lot of the begrudgers who claimed the only reason they're successful is because of being in Leinster. The truth is though that they're that much better than everyone at the moment.

Anyone see Eddie Brennan wearing his Electric Picnic staff wristband. Met him down there on the friday. He was on duty, possibly the worst ever choice for an undercover cop, though maybe a lot of EP revellers wouldn't have a clue who he is. Interesting he left on the band for the game though.

so Justin has walked. Good on him. Most would have deserted that shower of egomaniacs years ago. Can't wait to see who takes over, and how they cope.

The last time they tried to scapegoat him he held his ground (it was after a league defeat by Dublin in 2002 I think), and they went on to win Munster.

Their year is a writeoff now. And seeing as they are coming to the end of their time, you'd think it was a year that they couldn't really afford.

Couldn't have happened a nicer team really!

ah ha ha ha, best joke ever. Davy Fitz gets the job. Fantastic. Roll on the rest of this summer!

Was quizzed about it on Sunday night and was very non-commital.

He looks like a liar now.

thinking back on that now I reckon it was obvious that he knew at that stage he was gonna take it. I reckon Spillane did too.

They only gave him til the end of the season (to prove himself I presume). A get out clause for the county board if you like!

I really can't wait to see what happens next

- tv replay proves the umpire wrong

you sure? His front foot looked out to me at the time of striking. Technically they were right, but what a disaster. How could the ref let play go on so long before noticing the umpire? (I know he was up the other end, but could the linesmen not tell him?). The umpire looked to have an earpiece in, so had he no other way of attracting his attention?

Will Tipp offer a replay I wonder? Theres no onus on them whatsoever to do so but part of me is thinking it would be the right thing to do.

the way I saw it

- his front foot came out on the follow-through as opposed to when the hurl connected with the ball.

- prior to taking the puck out the goalkeeper had his run up impeded by the umpire standing directly behind him

- the umpire made the call knowing that whoever scored next would win the game

- referee should have overruled it. I have seen goalkeepers go as far as the 20 m line with puck-outs.

- umpire was smiling coming off the pitch. He then swapped his shirt and tie for a tracksuit top.

- funny how these decisions always favour counties who have 25 + titles already, never the underdog going for their first win.

Went to the Dark Knight instead of going to this. Shameful behaviour.

Clare minors had some rough justice too. Beat cork in the first round, then lost to Tipp and were knocked out. Cork meanwhile got a second chance, beat waterford and then tipp in the final.

it was an unbelievable decision, and is more than bitter on Clare given the nature of their senior team's exit from the championship last weekend.

I wouldn't give the umpire credit for thinking him able to hatch a sinister anti-Clare plot. I doubt hes that smart. I wonder if he can honestly put hand on heart today and say that it was definitely the first time all game that either keeper set foot outside the square for a puckout.

And it was bad the way the gards gave the wrong umpire the escort off the field. The lad who made the call was left to his own, and got a few smacks heading away. Hes lucky he wasn't killed.

Its like 1998 all over again!!! I'm sure Jimmy Cooney is pleased though - now Clare have a whole new hate figure!

Not excusing the umpire but as far as all reports I heard go ,it was the second time the clare keeper was pulled for it!
